Andy Logan, AWOL Company’s founder and creative director, has been designing innovative products and experiences for over 15 years. His work showcases sophisticated design sensibilities supported by the strategic insight to move products, brands, and markets. Forming AWOL Company in 2010, he offers clients worldwide a deep creative consulting experience informed by his time spent at some of the industry’s leading studios.
In launching his own agency, he sought to separate himself from the often clinically minimal or over-stylized extremes that tend to dominate the consulting landscape. Andy’s inspiration is drawn from the chaotic, busy and endlessly evolving lives of the real people for whom he designs. To that end, Andy has adopted a business-driven approach that capitalizes on how well clients know their own end users. He channels that deep understanding as the foundation for a truly collaborative process. From crafting the precise surface geometry of a new concept, to helping envision future strategic opportunities for clients, or observing real-world users going about their daily routines, working with AWOL Company means working directly with Andy – from an idea’s inception to the realization of an inspired design.
Over the course of his career, Andy has developed his craft at some of California’s most highly regarded design consultancies, including Designworks/BMW (1998-2004), and frog design (2004-2009). During that time, he helped deliver innovative design for brands such as Haworth, BMW, John Deere, Boeing, Nokia, Motorola, Microsoft, Umbra, K2, Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, Epson, TurboChef, Welch Allyn, SureFire, Disney, Kyocera, Logitech, Novo Nordisk, and Proctor & Gamble. These creative environments, working with teams of talented strategists, entrepreneurs, engineers, technologists, researchers, and fabricators, provided fertile ground for his perspective on the interplay between design, business and real people. He demonstrates to each of his clients that designing for their success is the most critical design metric.

Andy is a California native who lives and creates in his home state, with a very supportive wife and three young daughters as perpetual muses. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1998 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Design (and winning the Industrial Designer’s Society of America Merit Scholar Award). His work has won several design awards and been featured in numerous publications, including Fast Company, Men’s Journal, and Outdoor Magazine.
